In this guide I like to hopefully give you some ideas for your next tattoo, and talk a little about patriotism and what that means to different people. Are we as patriotic today as our parents? Some say we have changed and maybe they are right. Wars have been won and lost on patriotism, but I like to think there is still enough of us that care, but care for the right reasons.
Patriotism and freedom go hand in hand, a symbol of not being imprisoned, enslaved, or confined. The Ancient Greeks idea of patriotism also included religious rituals, ethics, the law, and a dedication to the common good.
Deciding what is the best tattoo design for you involves an emotional commitment seen in few other designs. You are making a statement to the world, wearing your heart on your sleeve, so to speak, you are proud enough to say I do more than just talk about it, I show it!
For example, a popular design is armed forces insignia to display what section you proudly serve, or have served under. Or perhaps you prefer your national flag or coat of arms. I know in my country (Australia), the Southern Cross star system is proudly worn by many Australians.
Another popular example is inking your favourite sport, like soccer, basketball, football, and many others, to proudly showing your allegiance.
In America, you will often see American Flags in the wake of disasters as a patriotic symbol of hope. And on Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, flags will be seen adorning many forms of transport and houses.
I hope this guide has been of some benefit to you, and if you like to see some really good patriotic designs, then have a look at my site at: http://guidetotattoodesigns.com.
