A Guide To Japanese Tattoo Designs

In this guide I like to give you some ideas for your next tattoo and give you a little history of this wonderful design. Japanese tattoo design has a extensive and renowned history dating back thousands of years, and over time this style of full body tattooing, normally associated with the Yakuza has now been embraced by mainstream society.
To get the best example of this style inked on your body I think you should be looking at a full back, or at the very least, a full arm tattoo to really do justice to this style of tattooing. For example, what about a full back design of the mighty Samurai battling a dragon, or the Koi fish and the lotus flower combined in an assortment of colours?
Or you may prefer a full arm design in the traditional Kanji writing style where you could merge a number of words, like loyalty, love, happiness, or a name of a loved one. Your main concern, if you choose the writing, is how do you know what is written is what I wanted? Unless you have a good knowledge of Kanji writing, then I'd be very cautious in getting words inked on my body.
For example, there is a story of a girl at a restaurant who asked the Japanese waiter to write the word serenity on a napkin for her, so she could take it to her tattoo artist. Unfortunately for her, the waiter's grasp of English was not that good (or was it payback?), six months after being inked she discovered that what she thought was written in bold colours down the full length of her arm, was not serenity, but service please!
So, as you can see, this very popular design can make you look foolish, and you will feel the pain in your wallet long after the healing from the cover-up or laser treatment has healed.
If you want to avoid the above problems I recommend you join a reputable design site, so you can rely on the right wording, rather than relying on your tattoo artist.
And one final point to remember, this design is far more detailed than many others, so it is not only time- consuming, but also can be quite expensive.
I hope this guide has been of some benefit to you, and if you like to know the right place to go so you don't make the same mistakes as the example above, have a look at my site at: http://guidetotattoodesigns.com.

A Guide To Tattoo Designs

If you are looking to get your first or your hundredth tattoo then this guide is for you. You will find numerous tips and advice designed to help you make the right choice. My philosophy is simple: it's ok to have a tattoo "just because it looks great", but for something that is a lifelong commitment, then I suggest you look for something with a deeper meaning or message. Remember, behind every great tattoo lies a great story.
In the last 20 years we have seen the move of tattoos from the fringe dwellers to mainstream society. Of course, the obvious reason is imitating your favourite pop star or actor. Just think how many people saw tattoos in a different light after David Beckham, Pink and Angeline Jolie got inked.
Also, stats now indicate that women outnumber men when it comes to getting inked. Many women have also become successful tattooist, which has brought about a marked improvement.
The competition between tattooist for your dollar is fierce, and with the worldwide economy struggling, and because tattoo design has evolved to be regarded as an art form and tattooist have become highly skilled artists who are not just doing their apprenticeship at a parlour but are coming out of universities with visual art degrees, there is no better time than now to get tattooed.
So, what you have to decide is the reason for getting your first or next tattoo. Do you want something to show your independence, individuality, or perhaps in remembrance of a special occasion such as birth or death of a loved one? If you want my advice don't rush into it, understand your tattoo is a lifelong commitment, and not a gift you can easily return. Yes, you can paint over an existing design or have it removed altogether, either way you will feel the pain in your wallet, long after the scarring has healed.
I know from experience that it can be intimidating and stressful finding the right design at a tattoo parlour. For my first tattoo I was persuaded to change my mind on a design and now I'm going through the process of a cover up.
What I suggest is you check-out my site where you will find a number of articles on my favourite tattoos. For instance, you will be able to read a brief history on tribal, dragon, Japanese, Chinese, tattoo sleeves, tattoos for women, and many more, as well as the best sites to find your favourite tattoo design.

A Guide To Patriotic Tattoo Designs

In this guide I like to hopefully give you some ideas for your next tattoo, and talk a little about patriotism and what that means to different people. Are we as patriotic today as our parents? Some say we have changed and maybe they are right. Wars have been won and lost on patriotism, but I like to think there is still enough of us that care, but care for the right reasons.
Patriotism and freedom go hand in hand, a symbol of not being imprisoned, enslaved, or confined. The Ancient Greeks idea of patriotism also included religious rituals, ethics, the law, and a dedication to the common good.
Deciding what is the best tattoo design for you involves an emotional commitment seen in few other designs. You are making a statement to the world, wearing your heart on your sleeve, so to speak, you are proud enough to say I do more than just talk about it, I show it!
For example, a popular design is armed forces insignia to display what section you proudly serve, or have served under. Or perhaps you prefer your national flag or coat of arms. I know in my country (Australia), the Southern Cross star system is proudly worn by many Australians.
Another popular example is inking your favourite sport, like soccer, basketball, football, and many others, to proudly showing your allegiance.
In America, you will often see American Flags in the wake of disasters as a patriotic symbol of hope. And on Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, flags will be seen adorning many forms of transport and houses.
I hope this guide has been of some benefit to you, and if you like to see some really good patriotic designs, then have a look at my site at: http://guidetotattoodesigns.com.

A Guide To Koi Fish Tattoo Designs

In this guide I like to tell you about some of the myths and legends associated with this wonderful fish, and hopefully give you some good ideas for your next tattoo.
This fish has often been seen as a symbol of determination and triumph against the odds, and a fish of beauty and style, and that is one of the reasons this tattoo design is one of the most sort after today.
The history is relatively new (200 years) and the mythology surrounding them is one of perseverance and triumph over adversity.
The Carp fish came from Europe, China and Korea long before it came to Japan; but the Japanese kept the carp as pets and due to inbreeding, mutations appeared, and these different coloured carp were then called Koi which is short for nishikigoi, meaning coloured carp.
In Chinese mythology, the Koi begins its journey upstream finding a way until it climbs the falls of the dragon gate on the Yellow river, then the fish will come out of the water transformed into a dragon. You will often see this tattoo design as a dragons' face emerging from the water.
I think most of at sometime have had to face our own upstream struggles, and that is another reason for the popularity of this design, it is that connection of struggle against the odds, and the power you feel when you emerge stronger and wiser (like the dragon) from your ordeal.
And finally, this fish is seen as a good luck charm, and we could all do with a bit extra luck now and then. I hope this guide has given you some insight into the mythology surrounding this wonderful design, and if you would like to see some really good fish designs, then go to my site at: http://guidetotattoodesigns.com

A Guide To Alien Tattoo Designs

I would like to share with you some of the myths and legends surrounding aliens, and perhaps, give you some ideas on finding the best alien tattoo designs.
Most alien tattoo designs are of the head of the alien and it makes sense, as you want to make a bold statement. An alien head tattoo design looks great combined with countless other tattoo designs, such as, tribal, dragons, and flower or jungle themes. And when you think about it, whether you just want the head, or the whole body of an alien as a tattoo, you can't go wrong. Now let me tell you something of the history of aliens.
Our fascination with alien life has a long history, dating back to cave drawings of strange aircraft in the sky, and this has continued down through the ages from ancient Egypt to the Bible, talk of strange beings has popped up many times.
Today, we send signals out to deep space hoping for a response, and on a daily basis we are hearing of sightings of UFO's, and sometimes it's hard to explain away such sightings as weather balloons, satellites or the space station.
And most of us are familiar with the stories of Roswell and its supposedly hidden agenda. And the movies over the years have had their fair share of aliens, from Disney's Martian to Alien versus Predator, from the humorous to the downright scary, our fascination has never wavered, and that is why this design has grown in popularity; so much so, it has become one of the most sort after tattoo designs around.
H.R Giger's influence on modern-day tattoo designs cannot be undervalued. His art has significantly influenced tattoo artist since the 1980 blockbuster movie Alien, and if you check-out my site you will see a good example of some of his ideas.
I have a friend who has full arm tattoos, from wrist to shoulders, in alien themes. One arm is a tribute to Giger, and the other arm is Alien versus Predator theme. Both arms are inked in grey and black to great effect, and the funny thing is the design may sound scary looking; in fact, the end result was more representative of a Japanese tattoo design.
Aliens are often represented as powerful, intelligent, and fearless, good reasons to choose this tattoo I'd say. I hope you have got something from my story and if you would like to see some really good alien tattoos, go to my site at: http://guidetotattoodesigns.com.

A Guide To Skull Tattoo Designs

In this guide I like to talk about skull tattoo designs and give you some history and maybe a couple of ideas for your next tattoo. For example, flaming skulls designs have had resurgence in popularity since the release of the Ghost Rider movie, and are an excellent choice if you want to make a bold statement.
One design that still remains popular is the cattle skulls with snakes or lizards protruding from the eyes, but here are many more like tribal skulls with bold lines and the darkness of the vacant eye sockets. Or perhaps, you prefer colour like a lotus flower or rose to accompany the skull, or be like me, I have a smiling skull on my upper arm.
The rise in support for the skull tattoo may be due to the success of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, which has the emblem of the skull and crossbones commonly referred to as the "Jolly Roger" flag. This particular skull tattoo designs is now one of the most popular and best tattoo designs around.
The sighting of the Jolly Roger flag hoisted atop the main sail was a clear message to those who crossed its path, and that was, give up now as we may kill who we capture, a message you were not likely to ignore or dismiss in a hurry.
More frightening than this was the site of a red Jolly Roger flag, the message was straight to the point, we will show no mercy, and if you are looking for ideas for your next tattoo then the red Jolly Roger with the words " no mercy " underneath, sounds pretty good to me.
And for something completely different I'm sure there are a number of American football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans with their team's logo 2 swords tattooed on their body.
